See What You See
See What You See is an exploration of perception and the individual ways we interpret the world around us. Through layers of colour, expressive forms and intricate details, the painting encourages the viewer to move beyond the first impression and allow their own imagination to shape what they discover.
There is no single image or definitive interpretation. Shapes and forms can transform depending on where the eye is drawn, with each viewer discovering different figures, connections and meanings within the composition. The title reflects this freedom: what you see belongs entirely to you.
In 2026, See What You See was selected as a finalist in the prestigious TARGET Painting Prize in Madrid, placing John Hunter among the final 80 artists from almost 2,000 submissions representing more than 80 countries worldwide. The recognition marks an important milestone in Hunter’s artistic journey and the continuing development of his exploration of abstraction, perception and imagination.
